Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has unfortunately been plagued with issues since its launch. Reports from players have detailed a myriad of issues, including Modern Warfare crashing on the Xbox One X. One other issue, however, involves the Dead Silence perk in multiplayer modes.
Dead Silence in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is supposed to let players sneak around unheard, stifling their footsteps. The perk should be used as a strategy for stealthy players, but it appears the perk has not been working as intended.
In a Twitter thread talking about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's update to playlists, a player asked Infinity Ward's Co-Design Director of Multiplayer Joe Cecot about the possibility of fixing the title's issues with footsteps and the Dead Silence perk. Cecot stated that "A fix is in the works but it’s a change that we can’t do instantly". He didn't offer a timeline on when the issues would be fixed, but Cecot's Twitter isn't an official means of releasing information for Infinity Ward, so there may be more information available soon.
The Dead Silence perk in Modern Warfare is supposed to stop a player's footsteps from making noise. However, the perk is just flat out not working, and other players can hear enemies' footsteps even when they shouldn't. At this time, that makes Dead Silence a waste of a perk slot at best, and actively ruining player strategies at worst. Coupled with footsteps being unusually loud in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, stealth is just not a viable option for players at this time, and it can severely hamper some players' multiplayer experience.
Things haven't been looking good for Infinity Ward's latest title so far. Opinions of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare have been divided since launch, and the issues that are popping up are not helping matters. Most of the issues appear to affect the multiplayer aspect of Modern Warfare, but PC performance issues plague the campaign as well. In addition, with the main story of Modern Warfare not taking long to beat, most people are going to want to head to the multiplayer to extend game time, and they won't want to run into a bunch of issues while playing online.
However, a game of this magnitude can't be expected to run perfectly from the get-go. Infinity Ward will hopefully work out Modern Warfare's kinks in the days to come.
