Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Crossplay Confirmed for All Platforms at Launch

Activision confirmed today during the big Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer reveal event that the upcoming shooter will have crossplay across all platforms at launch. This means that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players on PC, PS4, and Xbox One will all be able to play together with no issue as soon as the game is available on October 25.

Previously, crossplay was confirmed for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare by an Infinity Ward developer on Twitter, but it was unclear if the feature would be available at launch. After all, many multiplayer games that feature crossplay between rival systems like the PS4 and Xbox One add it after the fact, with very few games actually launching with crossplay. However, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare could be a sign that trend is changing - at least when it comes to the biggest blockbusters.

In the meantime, it remains to be seen just how much fans will embrace Call of Duty: Modern Warfare crossplay. There are some that are against crossplay between PC and consoles as they feel as though those playing with mouse and keyboard will have an advantage in the online multiplayer component. Luckily, any kinks in crossplay should be ironed out during the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare beta tests that will take place from September 19 - 20 (early access for PC and Xbox One, open beta for PS4) and September 21 - 23 (open beta across all platforms).

Those that decide to participate in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's versus multiplayer crossplay will have a variety of match types to try out. This includes the standard multiplayer matches that one would expect from a Call of Duty game, in addition to some new match types. As confirmed by Activision and Infinity Ward, new multiplayer match types in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will include a mode called Cyber Attack, large-scale battles in Ground War, and of course, the previously-revealed 2v2 Gunfight mode.

It's unclear just how many multiplayer modes will be tested during the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare crossplay beta testing phase, but more on that should come to light in the coming weeks.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will launch on October 25 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
