Call of Duty: Modern Warfare developer Infinity Ward explains how cross-play will work after the announcement left fans scratching their heads. Infinity Ward confirmed that PC and console players would be able to play together, but didn't say how.

On Twitter, a user named ExplosiveBdawg asked Infinity Ward community coordinator Candice Capen how if cross-play would only allow Xbox One and PC players, and PS4 and PC players to play together. There are "mixed rumors going around," explained the user and so they wanted Infinity Ward to address them. The community coordinator replied with "everybody play with everybody play with everybody," confirming that PS4, Xbox One and PC players would be able to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare together.

Surprisingly, not everyone was happy with the confirmation. There are 38 replies to the tweet and many of them say that they don't want to play with PC players. One Twitter user, Stacey Watson, asks "How are you going to solve the problem of aim bots and cheats that are a major issue in PC gaming?" It took just a week for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 to have an aimbot problem and so with cross-play now confirmed for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, fans just want to make sure that Infinity Ward will have strong anti-cheat to make it a level playing field.

Many also asked how Infinity Ward will stop PC players from dominating, as mouse and keyboard inputs would allow PC players to be more precise and have an advantage over those on consoles. Capen linked to a Forbes article about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare which explains that like Fortnite's cross-play, the Call of Duty game will have input matchmaking. So players who are on controllers on PC will be matchmade with those on consoles, and players who are using mouse and keyboards won't be.

Capen's replies don't fix every issue that cross-play can cause, and fans are going to be asking about cheating right up to the game's release date. However, many are seeing this announcement as a good thing. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is one of only a handful of games with full cross-play support. Fortnite and Rocket League were the only two games on that list for a while, before fantasy RPG Dauntless launched with cross-play. Players with friends on different platforms will want to see that list keep growing.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will launch on October 25 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
