Update 5/31/2019: It's been confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare DLC will be timed-exclusive to PlayStation. Original story follows.

Following months of leaks and rumors, Infinity Ward and Activision have finally announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare with a stunning trailer. A deeper dive into the game and its various game modes will come during an E3 Coliseum event on June 11, but there are some additional details about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare that we can confirm at this time.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be the first game in the series to support true cross-play across all platforms. In an attempt to unite the community, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players will be able to play together regardless of if they game on PC, PS4, or Xbox One.

The addition of cross-play in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will no doubt prove to be a popular decision, as will the fact that the game will not have a season pass. Past Call of Duty games have sold season passes that players needed to buy to get exclusive content like maps and other DLC, but as yet another part of Infinity Ward's strategy to unite the community, DLC maps for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be available for free.

Not only will Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players get free maps post-launch, but there is other free post-launch content for them to look forward to as well. This includes special events that will be available to all players, as well as other "content" that hasn't been specified just yet.

And while it's too early to confirm this for sure, it does seem as though this is an end for the Call of Duty franchise's timed-exclusive DLC. For years, Call of Duty games have offered DLC packs to players on either Xbox or PlayStation first, with everyone else having to wait a month to get their hands on the new content. However, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare supporting cross-play and abandoning the season pass in favor of free content updates, it seems to suggest that the game will not have timed-exclusive DLC. Again, we must caution that this hasn't been confirmed and is just speculation at this time.

Perhaps we will get clarification about timed-exclusive DLC for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare during the Call of Duty E3 2019 Coliseum Event on June 11.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will launch on October 25 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
