Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's launch has been both an incredible success and a mire of frustration. Infinity Ward has confirmed that there's a massive outpouring of players jumping into Modern Warfare, but also that its servers have been struggling with some issues as a result.
Despite Modern Warfare's first title update going out this morning, some issues continue to persist. The most pressing being an Xbox One X bug that appears to be resulting in hard crashes for a number of players.
Infinity Ward has acknowledged the ongoing issue on Xbox One X, but has yet to fix the problem. Reddit users posting in a thread specifically for the bug have confirmed that it's ongoing, with many saying that they're crashing multiple times over a span of just hours. "We are seeing a small number of Xbox One X players experience crashes with Modern Warfare. We are already working on a fix," is what Infinity Ward posted to Twitter over 18 hours ago.
"Even after the patch my Xbox One X continues to hard crash. I've had it happen 3 times in the last 20 minutes. This is horrendous," reads a comment on Reddit. Another says that it only happens online, both in-game and in the pre- and post-match Modern Warfare multiplayer lobbies. One player even says their console crashed while they were renaming their multiplayer loadout. What's especially worrying is whether the issue is with an in-game bug or if Modern Warfare is triggering a hardware issue like overheating.
The Xbox One X may not be the only platform having this issue, either, though it certainly seems to be where it's most consistently occurring. Some playing Modern Warfare on standard Xbox One, Xbox One S and even on PS4 have also posted to the thread about their game hard crashing.
Infinity Ward has also posted in the Reddit thread asking for users who are crashing to also post their gamertags.
For the time being, Infinity Ward continues to work on fixes and updates for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's issues behind the scenes. There hasn't been an update on the Xbox One X issue since the original Twitter post acknowledging the problem. That means that Xbox One X users who are dealing with the problem will just have to continue to do so, crash by crash, until Infinity Ward solves the problem. It's an awful place to be in for gamers who just spent money on a new game, especially given how severe of an issue a hard crash can be.
