Ever since the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, players have been voicing concerns about topics ranging from the game's numerous bugs to its skill-based matchmaking and beyond. While Infinity Ward has occasionally responded to these concerns, a perceived lack of communication is yet another component of the frustrations currently surrounding the title, and this irritation has, at times, led some fans to address the game's community managers with a palpable hostility.

Indeed, antagonism is not uncommon on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's community forums, and it is this type of communication that Infinity Ward Art Director Joel Emslie seems to be concerned about. Emslie addresses this concern in a recent post made on the game's official subreddit, in which he indicates that the studio does need to "find better ways to get the community information about the game," while also suggesting that there is room for improvement on the other end of this ongoing discussion.

"I would like to ask everyone in the community to give my co-workers a lot more respect in the area of comms," Emslie writes. This request appears to be in direct reference to disparaging comments that have made about Infinity Ward's Senior Communications Manager Ashton Williams, who some fans suggest is not meeting their expectations for a community manager, and Emslie provides some additional information on the duties of this position.

"She does a tremendous amount of work behind the scenes that is never seen by the community," Emslie says of Williams after stating his belief that she is "doing a phenomenal job working to the best of her ability within some really really tough constraints." While some players would likely prefer the game's community managers to be almost exclusively responsible for interfacing directly with the fans about CoD: MW's problems, that is simply not the setup that appears to be in place, as articulated by Emslie.

Perhaps then, some of the concerns that players have about the frequency of Infinity Ward's communication boils down to a discrepancy between the infrastructure that the developer has established and what fans would prefer it to be. Indeed, if there were a number of dedicated community managers, some of the current frustrations might dissipate. Still, it is possible for fans to voice their frustrations respectfully, and while Infinity Ward works to "improve [its] back and forth," Emslie is asking that players remain mindful of that fact.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
