Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is no stranger to sometimes game-breaking glitches, like a recently discovered invincibility exploit in Giant Infection mode. However, an issue with Capture the Flag brought up on Reddit Wednesday by user bluefishpoop has players wondering whether they've discovered a bug or an unannounced new feature.

In their post on the r/modernwarfare subreddit, bluefishpoop uploaded a short video showcasing their inability to collect their own team's flag, dropped from a defeated enemy, while themselves carrying the opposing team's flag. They say they "used to be able to do this" in Modern Warfare, and reach out to Infinity Ward's Co-Design Director of Multiplayer Joe Cecot to weigh in on whether the change was intentional or not.

Infinity Ward has yet to respond to the post, but there are numerous other players in the comments sharing their frustrations or offering potential explanations as to why the change was purposeful rather than just a bug. Bluefishpoop says Capture the Flag is their favorite game mode and hopes for "some visibility and a resolution," which would not be unprecedented given that the game's developers have spoken to fans on Reddit about issues like the Platinum Camo lighting issue in the past.

While Reddit users like RobinC83 suggest the change could have been made to "prevent players from running around with the flag without actually trying to capture it," it could just as well be a bug as far as the community knows. There was no mention of a change to Capture the Flag in the update patch on March 3.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare recently entered its second season of major content releases, and as a result is likely under a higher level of scrutiny from its fanbase. New additions to the game like extra maps and operators, as well as more gimmicky things like Tamagotchi watches that feed on kills, are adding a lot more for players to experience.

With more to experience comes the possibility that more bugs have slipped through cracks in the first-person shooter's coding. The Capture the Flag issue publicized by bluefishpoop is one of many fans will probably see going forward, especially with the impending "Warzone" battle royale mode, so hopefully, Infinity Ward comes forward with more information soon.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
