Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is serving as a full reboot for the series, which is why dead characters like John "Soap" MacTavish can return to the game. The reboot is also seeing some memorable roles recast, and while we don't know if Soap's voice actor has been replaced, we do know that Captain Price will be played by a different voice actor in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

It's been confirmed that Captain Price's original voice actor, Billy Murray, will not be returning to reprise the role for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Billy Murray is being replaced by Barry Sloane, who has actually portrayed a similar character to Captain Price in the History Channel show SIX. Sloane has also played through all of the previous Modern Warfare games to get a better understanding of Captain Price as a character, so no one can say he hasn't done his homework.

Infinity Ward is looking for a fresh start for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, so it makes sense for the studio to cast a new Captain Price. However, there were other factors to take into account as well. It's worth pointing out that Billy Murray is now 77 years old, which would potentially make it difficult for him to do the motion capture work that's often required of video game actors working on today's games.

While Modern Warfare purists may still be sad to see Murray replaced, Sloane's work seems to have been well-received so far. Captain Price was featured prominently in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare reveal trailer, and there hasn't been any hubbub or controversy drummed up about the new voice actor.

Captain Price seems to have an even bigger role in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and it will be interesting to see how his story plays out in the campaign. Seeing his reaction to some of the campaign's shocking scenes, which will reportedly make No Russian look like a Pixar film, will be of particular interest to longtime fans.

Those looking forward to Captain Price's return can pick up Call of Duty: Modern Warfare later this year.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launches on October 25 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
