Call of Duty: Modern Warfare fans have been sharing frustrations with forced Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War integration, bothered by the fact that the previous game in the series is being forgotten. With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare becoming an advertisement for Warzone and the latest Black Ops title, players believe Activision is doing all that it can to get players to move on from 2019’s Call of Duty.

Over the past few months, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has grown on fans. As such, many had hoped there would be a Season 7, though the extensive advertising for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War makes it seems highly unlikely that the Modern Warfare reboot breaks the yearly CoD cycle. While new leaks for extra guns and the return of beloved character Soap MacTavish gave fans hope, the game’s recent repurposing has all but killed that hope.

Not sitting well with fans, perhaps the most egregious example of this Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War advertising can be seen on PC. On the platform, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare can no longer be seen, with the game’s launch client being renamed Call of Duty: Warzone instead. As tweeted out by Twitter user @Kaceycalhoon, the massive amount of advertisements for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War cover the entire screen, with it seeming as if Activision wants players to think “Modern Warfare doesn’t exist anymore.”

On consoles, Modern Warfare’s menu image has also been changed, with much of the image now showing off art from Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s first season. A small “MW” logo in the top left corner is the only remaining presence of the 2019 release, hardly noticeable with new operator Stitch making up most of the space. With players pointing out that similar tactics were not used with games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, the frustration is understandable.

Intriguingly, Call of Duty: Warzone players have shared frustration with the integration process as well. While their issues differ greatly, as the players are upset with how the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War weapons are incredibly weak, the integration has clearly frustrated parts of the Call of Duty community. While Activision is unlikely to address these complaints, they are certainly worth keeping in mind for the integration of future releases.

With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s multiplayer storyline ending via the Verdansk nuke cutscene, the game’s support seems to be finished. While fans wait on a potential sequel, it seems like they will have to deal with last year’s Call of Duty being treated as a launch tool for Call of Duty: Warzone and an advertisement for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
