Last week, speculation began regarding the possible reveal of a new Call of Duty game. The rumor mill began turning when news broke out that several NFL and college football players were invited to attend a sponsored playtest of the rumored game. Now, Activision puts the speculation to rest by confirming that an official announcement of a new Call of Duty game is on its way soon.

In a recent earnings call where Activision discussed the financial results from the first quarter of the year, the publisher confirmed that an upcoming Call of Duty game is currently in development by Infinity Ward. While Activision did not reveal the exact date for the announcement, it did give a window of the second quarter of this year, which could be anytime from today up until the end of June.

Speaking to investors, Activision President Rob Kostich said that they "feel incredibly good about this year's game coming from Infinity Ward [and] I think it's going to be really clear why we're really so excited about the release." Of course, the timeframe that Activision provided for the announcement of the upcoming Call of Duty game is not at all surprising given that E3 2019 falls within the specified announcement window. If Activision will follow the same pattern as the announcement of last year's Black Ops 4, then it is likely that the official announcement will take place weeks before the gaming convention.

Aside from the confirmation that a new installment in the long-standing franchise is on its way soon, Activision did not provide any more details about the upcoming title. However, rumors suggest that unlike Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, the upcoming title will not feature a battle-royale mode but will have a single-player campaign.

Moreover, rumors also point out that it will be Modern Warfare 4. After several NFL players were invited to attend a private playtest of the game, leaked footage soon surfaced online where the players were heard shouting the phrases "killstreaks," and "Modern Warfare 4," which strengthens the rumors that the recently confirmed title in development is indeed Modern Warfare 4.

Call of Duty 2019 currently has no official title or release date.
