Although many gamers are looking to the future now that E3 has wrapped up, Microsoft is about to offer up a serious dose of nostalgia by adding Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 to its Xbox One backward compatibility catalogue.

The fan favorite game is one of the most popular in the iconic series and Call of Duty players are likely going to be very tempted to revisit the game's campaign while they wait for the next installment in the franchise, Black Ops 4, to arrive later this fall. Modern Warfare 3 was a very popular game during the Xbox 360 reign and it is likely that first-person shooter fans will want to jump back into the title, even if it's only for a quick match or two.

In addition to the backward compatibility support announcement, Major Nelson also pointed out that the game is currently on sale thanks to this week's Deals With Gold promotions. That means that even gamers who don't still have the original disc around can jump into the action for a pretty affordable price.

Xbox Gold subscribers can pick the game up this week for 50% off of its current price. That makes the main title about $15. Completionists can also snag all of the game's DLC at a 33% discount.

For players who already own Modern Warfare 3 and are new to the backward compatibility feature, it's pretty simple. All they need to do is put the disc in the drive, navigate to My Games and Apps, and then locate the title in the Ready To Download section. That's all there is to it! Good luck out there, soldiers.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is now available on Xbox One via backward compatibility.
