If there's one thing gamers can count on every year, it's that a brand new Call of Duty will grace their systems every fall. The series has been annualized for the better part of a decade now, and fans have been anxiously waiting for a reveal, with rumors of another Modern Warfare game circulating for quite a while. However, it appears that we now have some confirmation that Modern Warfare will be this year's Call of Duty.
Confirmed by Jason Schreier of Kotaku, this year's Call of Duty title will simply be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, without any additional numbering to indicate where it falls in the sub-franchise. While many fans have been anxiously awaiting another Modern Warfare title, this is guaranteed to cause some confusion among the casual gaming audience, specifically for parents looking to get the game as a gift for their children this holiday season. Without a doubt, there will be plenty of Reddit posts later this year with gamers making fun of the situation
Fans have been waiting for a full reveal of the game for quite some time now, causing one Infinity Ward developer to ask players to be patient for the reveal, reminding them that good things come to those that wait. However, patience isn't really the internet's strong point, and many fans have taken to internet forums to vent their frustration, specifically because the game is usually revealed in late March or early May.
I can confirm this is true, and that it's hilarious. The first one was "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" so obviously the fourth one is "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare." Video games are absurd https://t.co/Ghb1m2srC4— Jason Schreier (@jasonschreier) May 24, 2019
The new Call of Duty will be revealed at E3 2019, so at least fans don't have much longer until they get to see the game. It'll be interesting to see how Infinity Ward and Activision handle the confusing title from a marketing standpoint, as they'll have to try to ensure that casual fans don't accidentally bamboozle themselves.
Regardless, confirmation of what the game actually is should be exciting for many gamers, though all this information should be taken with a grain of salt until the game is actually revealed. That being said Jason Schreier's track record is pretty much perfect, so it does seem safe to bet on this information being correct.
