Activision reveals new details about several updates coming to the Ricochet anti-cheat system in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 during Season 3. These anti-cheat updates will bolster protection against cheaters and third-party tools in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 to provide a more fair gameplay experience.

Season 3 of Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 will begin on Wednesday, April 12, alongside a major playlist update. Activision recently confirmed the beloved Intervention sniper rifle is returning as the new FJX Imperium on April 12, and two fan-favorite Modern Warfare 2 characters will face off in a long-awaited confrontation. The upcoming third season will also bring a slew of balance adjustments and bug fixes thanks to player feedback from the Season 2 Reloaded update. Further, Season 3 will bring substantial updates to the Ricochet anti-cheat system in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.

A new Call of Duty blog post was published today, detailing major updates to the Ricochet anti-cheat system for Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 Season 3. Team Ricochet reiterates its zero-tolerance policy for cheating in the latest Call of Duty titles by banning all players caught cheating, purging banned accounts from the Ranked Play top 150, and adjusting Skill Rating for players that frequently played with and benefited from cheaters. Additionally, a new "Replay Investigation" tool will be in use for Season 3 and beyond, allowing Team Ricochet to view automatically captured and stored match data during the investigation process. This replay tool will allow the team to identify and study cheating behavior in all multiplayer modes across Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 going forward.

Alongside the new Replay Investigation tool, third-party hardware device detection will be active in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 Season 3. Team Ricochet tested and developed third-party hardware device detection through Season 2, and the tool is finally ready for deployment as Season 3 approaches on April 12. Users that attempt to use unsupported devices that alter the gameplay experience in an unfair way will receive a warning in the game. Continued use of these malicious devices results in subsequent warnings, deployment of in-game mitigations, account suspensions, and account bans.

The current active mitigations in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 include Cloaking, Disarm, and Damage Shield. Cloaking will hide legitimate players from cheaters, Disarm will remove weapons and equipment from the cheater, and Damage Shield will provide a protective barrier against cheaters. "Several more surprises" for cheaters are currently active or will be active for Season 3.

Although anti-cheat measures were considered cumbersome to some Call of Duty players for a time, these measures have since been vastly improved. Season 3 appears to be a turning point for Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 since highly-requested anti-cheat features are finally being introduced into the game including hardware detection. Fewer cheaters within the player base mean more players may potentially enjoy the new content in Season 3 without worrying about an unfair playing field.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 are available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
