Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 players have discovered what seems to be a bug that allows a certain loadout to trigger player invulnerability in the game's multiplayer mode. This is among a long list of other bugs in the game and comes as a frustrating setback for Modern Warfare 2 players who are just getting to grips with the newly released title's competitive multiplayer maps.

Modern Warfare 2 opened to franchise record-breaking sales after launching on October 28, 2022, netting over $800 million in through sales in the first three days of its release and breaking a five-day record of $775 million held by 2011's Modern Warfare 3. The popularity of the Modern Warfare series was revamped with 2019's reboot of Modern Warfare which was aided by its hugely successful Warzone battle royale mode that helped to usher in a new era of online multiplayer gaming.

Reddit user Hydra_GER12 posted to the Modern Warfare 2 subreddit to highlight an infuriating bug that he had found in Call of Duty's popular multiplayer modes. It seems that players who choose the riot shield as a part of their loadout become invulnerable to any form of damage. Hydra_GER12's post includes a video showing a player, with the riot shield on their back, take a full magazine to the body without registering any effect or damage.

Hydra_GER12 describes the bug as "game breaking" while calling for the riot shield to be disabled. The video sparked a mass of comments from players who have experienced the same bug, with some sharing that the riot shield invulnerability bug only activates after a riot shielder is attacked by a VTOL kill streak. Some even went on to express their frustration at certain Modern Warfare 2 players who have knowingly exploited bugs to gain high kill streaks and dramatically improve their kill to death ratio.

Considering the recent launch, gamers are understandably upset that the developers would overlook such a game breaking bug. However, bugs, glitches and exploits are nothing new at launch, with developers often needing to iron out the kinks of a new release, and Modern Warfare 2 is among those already having a fair share of problems. Fans of the franchise hope this particular bug will gain enough traction to come to Infinity Ward's attention sooner rather than later and that the developer will address the root cause of the bug rather than simply disabling the riot shield. With the release of Warzone 2.0 scheduled for November 16, 2022, Infinity Ward will want to ensure that these types of bugs are dealt with to keep the new battle royale addition competitive and enjoyable.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
