Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered is finally out for PC and Xbox One now that its PS4 timed-exclusivity window has expired. The game's PC launch has allowed dataminers to dig through its files, and they have uncovered code that seems to indicate that the game could be getting its multiplayer component back at some point down the line.

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered file size on PC is 65GB, which some have speculated means that it contains code for the multiplayer as well as the campaign. Indeed, dataminers have discovered images that relate to a multiplayer component for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered, with those images shared online in a new video by frequent Call of Duty leaker TheGamingRevolution.

Dataminers have found evidence for multiplayer classes, various game modes, and even brand new camos that weren't in the original Modern Warfare 2. More specifically, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered dataminers have found files for Dark Matter and Diamond camos, which indicates that not only was multiplayer in development at some point, but it was set to add some new content as well.

However, it remains to be seen if Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered will ever get its multiplayer component. TheGamingRevolution has previously said that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered may never get its multiplayer as Activision and Infinity Ward don't want to split the community between it and the mega-popular Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

One solution mentioned in the past was that instead of giving Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered its multiplayer back, the developers would instead release MW2 maps for Modern Warfare. So far, the fan favorite MW2 map Rust has been added to Modern Warfare, but otherwise the game mostly has remakes of Call of Duty 4 maps, like Backlot, Crash, and Shipment.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 4 is right around the corner, though, and it's possible that it will include some more MW2 map remakes. Even so, some fans may not be satisfied by this solution, as while it would be nice to play on classic maps, it wouldn't mimic the original game's gameplay. For the more nostalgia-minded gamers, here's hoping that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered does get its multiplayer mode back eventually.
