Activision has confirmed that this year's Call of Duty game will be developed by Infinity Ward, with reports indicating that the game will be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, a sequel to 2019's Modern Warfare reboot. Fans haven't seen anything official about the new game yet, and it may still be quite a few months before it's shown off. While fans wait for official news on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, or whatever it ends up being called, there should be plenty of "leaks" about it in the meantime.

There have been very accurate Call of Duty leaks in the past, as well as "leaks" that never really panned out, so fans should take any information about the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 with a massive grain of salt. The latest leak stems from Twitter user Ralph, who has had a somewhat inconsistent track record when it comes to Call of Duty leaks. In any case, their latest claim is pretty easy to believe, so it will be interesting to see if it pans out.

According to Ralph's latest tweet, Infinity Ward is planning on remastering even more multiplayer maps for this year's Call of Duty game than was originally planned. These remastered maps will supposedly come from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. It's not uncommon at all for Call of Duty games to feature remastered maps, so this really shouldn't come as a surprise to fans.

However, if Ralph's information is accurate, the possibility of even more remastered maps to look forward to may make the game more exciting for fans. There were plenty of classic Call of Duty maps that were leaked for the 2019 Modern Warfare that never released, and so some fans have been waiting awhile to revisit those fan favorites. Many would be happy to revisit maps like Estate and Terminal, and while Shipment was featured in Modern Warfare and popped back up in Call of Duty: Vanguard, it seems unlikely that there would be many complaints if it returned in the 2022 Modern Warfare 2 as well.

Ralph's tweet also mentions Infinity Ward's supposed plans to support Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 longer than it did the 2019 Modern Warfare game. This would go hand in hand with rumors that the 2023 Call of Duty game may be delayed to the following year, and that the franchise may finally be switching off from its annual release schedule, though Activision has denied those claims.

Microsoft is in the process of acquiring Activision Blizzard, and so the future of the Call of Duty series is very much in flux. For now, fans should treat these "leaks" with skepticism, even if they seem like a no-brainer.
