Beginning in 2015 with the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, PlayStation signed a deal with Activision to grant its console players some exclusive rewards, and first dibs on any of the series' DLCs and betas. For the last seven years, that deal has made PlayStation fans pretty happy, with plenty of exclusive cosmetics, early access betas, and even some exclusive maps offered over the years. Despite Microsoft acquiring Activision, Sony's deal is still active, and this year's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is still jam-packed with PlayStation-exclusive rewards.

While PlayStation's exclusive Call of Duty rewards have been quite controversial in the past, with 2019's Modern Warfare keeping its Spec Ops Survival mode restricted to just PlayStation players for quite some time, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's platform exclusive rewards don't seem to be gatekeeping any content from players. But that's not to say Modern Warfare 2's exclusive rewards aren't good. PlayStation fans have plenty of free bonuses to redeem, including some cosmetics, some battle pass rewards, and free XP boosts.

For those on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 who already own a copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, then they're in luck, as most of these exclusive rewards can be claimed already, with some automatically being built into those versions of the game. One such reward is that players can access two extra custom class loadout slots, letting them create even more experimental weapon and perk combinations without the need to swap out pre-existing ones.

PlayStation players will also naturally receive an XP boost when they play with their friends. All players need to do is party up with their buddies, and a 25% bonus to weapon XP should be automatically applied. This can be used indefinitely, automatically occurring for every match that parties play together. Eventually, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will also start hosting exclusive double XP events for PlayStation players, which are set to occur about once every month.

Those who pre-ordered Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will already be able to download the free Oni operator pack from the PlayStation Store. This pack gives players a new operator skin, named Hiro "Oni" Watanabe, along with an exclusive weapon blueprint, and a range of other cosmetics. Pre-ordering the Vault Edition on PlayStation will also grant players an additional five battle pass tier skips on top of the 50 already provided in the edition, totaling 55 battle pass tier skips.

Once the battle pass releases on November 16 along with Modern Warfare 2 Season 1 and Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0, PlayStation users will be able to access five extra battle pass tiers, each with an exclusive cosmetic reward for that platform. Infinity Ward has also confirmed that PlayStation players will be able to redeem a free Combat Pack each and every Season. These Combat Packs will contain at least one operator skin, a weapon blueprint, and a range of other cosmetics such as calling cards, emblems, and weapon charms.

Though none of it will save a player from Modern Warfare 2's particularly lethal killstreaks and weapons, these rewards are a nice little benefit for PlayStation players, while also not putting those on Xbox or PC at a disadvantage, or restricting any content away from them. Even though Microsoft has now acquired Activision, it seems as though this PlayStation exclusivity deal is set to last for at least another year, with these rewards being listed to continue until this time next year.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
