Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 brings a new level of unlockable camo to the franchise, the Orion camo, but players aren't happy with it. Gamers able to unlock the three lower levels of camo including Gold, Platinum, and Polyatomic will automatically earn the Orion camo for all of their weapons. Some players are asking for the Orion camo to be changed as in its current form the ultimate mastery Orion camo is a disappointing end to the grinding of Modern Warfare 2 challenges.

Unlockable camo skins for player weapons have been a feature of the franchise since the first Call of Duty: Modern Warfare in 2007. Traditionally, players have to complete weapons-specific challenges, such as "get 50 headshots" or "score 250 assists" with each weapon to unlock increasingly rare camo designs. Key attachments make weapon challenges easier, but Modern Warfare 2's new Gunsmith system makes unlocking weapon attachments take longer than ever before and as a result, completing weapon-specific challenges for new skins is also taking longer.

The new Orion Mastery camo requires every challenge to be completed for 51 different weapons which require a significant amount of gameplay and player skill. Earning every camo in Modern Warfare 2 should be an achievement worth celebrating but those that earn the Orion camo have been disappointed with how the new camo appears during gameplay. Orion camo is supposed to be animated with a swirling, galaxy-inspired pattern, but as pointed out on Reddit by user ru5tysn4k3, the animation is so slow that it appears to be static.

The video posted to Reddit shows the Orion animation sped by 16x and even at that speed the swirling galaxy pattern is barely moving across the surface of the gun. Without a significantly sped-up animation, the Orion camo appears similar to lower-tier camo with some players acting surprised that the Orion camo is even supposed to be moving at all. A slow animation speed isn't as game-breaking as some other weapon issues, including Activision temporarily disabling weapon tuning, but some Modern Warfare 2 fans are expressing a preference for the return of the Damascus skins from earlier games.

Modern Warfare 2 players commenting on ru5tysn4k3's video currently prefer the Polyatomic camo over the Orion camo. One witty user even mentions that in its current form the Orion camo is as barely perceptible as Drax the Destroyer because it moves so slowly. Everyday gamers are reporting bugs while playing Modern Warfare 2 so it is not known just high on the list of Infinity Ward's post-launch priorities adjusting the animation speed for Orion camo is, but until then, gamers will continue to be disappointed at the reward for demonstrating weapon mastery.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
