Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is one of the most beloved games in the franchise, and for good reason. As such, fans were hoping for more than just the campaign to be remastered in 2020, and it seems like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 fans were originally going to get their wish.

While the campaign of the 2009 title was beloved by fans, and it was nice to see an upgraded version of it, multiplayer was where the title truly shined. Alongside the best iteration of the co-op mode Spec Ops, the second Modern Warfare game featured iconic weaponry like the Ranger shotguns and Intervention sniper rifle. Every weapon was overpowered, making the game incredibly fun, and the map lineup included classics like Terminal, Rust, and Highrise.

Despite being so popular, and even though the remaster of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare brought back the game’s multiplayer content, fans did not get access to the remastered multiplayer for the sequel. While some have coped by making a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered multiplayer mod, others are simply wondering where the rumored online portion of the remaster went. According to a recent video from reputable insider Tom Henderson, which was broken down by Redditor maneil99, the multiplayer was supposed to launch around Modern Warfare 2019.

Obviously, that multiplayer never came, and Henderson claims that all the content that was being worked on for the remaster will be incorporated into Call of Duty 2022 instead. All but confirmed to be a Modern Warfare 2019 sequel, 2022’s CoD game featuring this content makes sense, though it will be interesting to see how the community reacts. While it will be nice to see classic maps and weapons brought back, they will no doubt play differently in the Call of Duty 2022 engine. Regardless, it is nice to know that some content from the beloved game’s multiplayer will be getting a fresh coat of paint.

While some fans may be let down by the news that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered’s multiplayer was absorbed into the 2022 game, the bright side is that this year’s entry in the series should have a massive amount of multiplayer content. In his video, Henderson also shares that Call of Duty 2022’s leaked DMZ mode will have a unique map and some complex AI. He teases free-to-play content and states that development is going smoothly, with the game’s pre-alpha footage supposedly looking good.

With Call of Duty 2022’s campaign expected to focus on Task Force 141 as well, the game should be a crowd-pleaser. While it may not be the same as a full remaster of the original Modern Warfare 2, at least Call of Duty fans can expect some content from the 2009 game if the latest leaks are accurate.
