Developer Treyarch announces that it’s delaying the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s CDL Moshpit competitive multiplayer playlist. Treyarch planned to release CDL Moshpit as part of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s first season of live content, which began today, includes a variety of new content and coincides with the launch of Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0.Publisher Activision and Developer Treyarch launched Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in October as the second game in the rebooted Call of Duty: Modern Warfare sub-franchise. It earned “generally favorable” reviews on Metacritic, scoring 79 on PC and 77 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. It’s also the parent game for Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0, which launched on November 16th.Treyarch intended for CDL Moshpit to serve as a test run for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s ranked modes coming next year. Treyarch planned to launch CDL Moshpit on the 16th, only to announce a last-minute delay on the day of. Developers explained that the studio had recently discovered issues with the playlist and that correcting it would “require a slight delay.” Treyarch did not explain precisely what was wrong with Modern Warfare 2’s new Multiplayer Playlist or when the studio expects it to be ready for release. However, developers describe fixing these issues as a “top priority.”
Developers intend for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s CDL Moshpit to bridge the gap between the game’s standard multiplayer matches and the upcoming Ranked Play modes. It will use the same rules and map rotation as the Call of Duty League and the Hardpoint, Search & Destroy, and Control Game Modes. This includes The Call of Duty League’s standard four vs. four matchups.
Treyarch’s goal with CDL Moshpit seems to be simulating the experience of Call of Duty League matches while helping to prepare players for the upcoming Ranked Play. Modern Warfare 2’s Ranked Play launches in 2023 and will feature skill ratings, ranked divisions, competitive modes, a leaderboard of the top 250 players, and rewards for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s highest-ranked players.
Despite the problems with CDL Moshpit, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’ Season 1 mostly seems to have gone well. The new content includes multiple new Operators, Maps, Weapons, and Bundles, not to mention the launch of Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0, which went live the same day. The latter is a new and hopefully improved version of Call of Duty’s free-to-play battle royale game and includes overhauled vehicle mechanics, a new map, and the new DMZ game mode.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
