Activision Blizzard is set to update Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 with another limited-time free multiplayer period which will allow new players to try some of the most popular modes in the latest entry in the series. Since it was released, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been free-to-play once and has received the same sort of double XP treatment that many titles before it experienced, but not quite like this.
Developers behind Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 have confirmed that the multiplayer will be getting five days of free access for players that don't already own the game across the various platforms that it's available on. Though it hasn't been done with many Call of Duty entries in the past, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 provided free entry to its multiplayer in December, and its about to replicate the experience in the near future for players that haven't been privy to the content that's been added to the game since. Ahead of its launch, Call of Duty fans could also acquire codes for experience boosts in Modern Warfare 2 with products like Mountain Dew, Little Caesars, and Jack Links.
A Call of Duty update has confirmed that Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer and some of its multiple game modes will be unlocked for free between March 16 and March 20. The limited-time free offer provides access to six multiplayer maps in a rotation that may feel a little more restricted than the one that existing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 players are used to. Beyond this small map lineup, the multiplayer and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Special Ops menus will have their own limitations that may tease everything that the full edition includes, but can only open certain things.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's cooperative raid introduced with Season 1 will be available for free players to try during the limited-time March event which could help boost party numbers. The Himmelmatt Expo is another Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer map added with Season 2 Reloaded, and new players will be able to explore the medium-sized arena, while Shipment was the only other location teased by Activision Blizzard. Because many players that tried the first Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 free event didn't upgrade to the full edition of the game, this second one may be enough to entice some of them.
Players that are able to install it immediately and play until its conclusion will get five days of Call of Duty multiplayer action for free which will at least ensure that they're progressing through unlocks that make their soldiers more powerful. Though it's currently unclear when the next free trial will be, it could fall under the next season given the seasonal track record that Activision Blizzard has maintained so far.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
