Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is about to receive its own iteration of the infamous Damascus weapon camouflage, but it's going to be a paid item. Weapon camos have historically been one of the most interesting and notable aspects of Call of Duty titles' respective multiplayer experiences, allowing players to show off their hard-earned cosmetics after a prolonged grind.

While the camo grind has been substantially streamlined with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, its 2019 predecessor had a few infamously hard-to-get camos, with Damascus being effectively the be-all, end-all for a prospective camouflage hunter. Featuring an eye-catching metal pattern inspired by the Damascus forging process for melee weaponry, some players were disappointed to see that this particular skin wasn't making its way into the new title, though that is bound to change soon, according to a recent leak.

Specifically, Reddit user beefycthu has discovered the presence of the Damascus camo in Modern Warfare 2's game files, but not in the same manner as some would've expected. While hunting for Modern Warfare 2019's Damascus camo was a prolonged and involved process, players will need to purchase a future cosmetics bundle to own it in the new title. Even then, it would seem that Damascus won't be an actual weapon camouflage at all, but a skin exclusive to the Bruen Ops Chimera assault rifle.

In effect, this means that there won't be a way to apply the unique Damascus camo to any weapons other than the Chimera, though it's possible that the bundle containing this cosmetic item will also feature an additional weapon or two fielding the same skin, as has sometimes been the case. The good news for some, then, is that this will be an alternative way of unlocking the Chimera in Modern Warfare 2, but the fact that Damascus won't be available across the board is sure to sadden many players.

Unlocking Modern Warfare 2's Mastery Camo cosmetics is a relatively straightforward process. Whereas the previous titles would force players to work for every single camo unlock on each of the games' many weapons, all regular camos are now universally applicable. Mastery Camos represent the endgame chase instead, and getting the Gold, Platinum, Polyatomic, and Orion camos takes a fair bit of effort once the four baseline camos of a given weapon have been unlocked.

If beefycthu's discovery ends up being correct, there won't be any need to share tips to get the Damascus from Modern Warfare. Instead, players will simply have a relatively short window of opportunity to purchase an appropriate bundle containing the Chimera with Damascus pre-applied to it. This may also set the precedent for more Damascus Forge weapons to launch as limited-time offerings in the future, though it's still early to tell if that might end up being the case.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
