Sometimes bugs can strike at the strangest possible moments, and a player got to experience just this in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 when one such bug sent them into an infinite cutscene loop. A bug like this can be the result of any number of reasons, whether it be a random glitch in the middle of a game or a player interaction ultimately gone awry. Unfortunately for the player, the bug in this case was the result of their own action as Ghost and Soap attempt to escape their pursuers.

While Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is now out in the wild for everyone to pick up, the campaign was available a week early for anyone who pre-ordered the game and wanted to rejoin Task Force 141. Capt. Price, Gaz, Laswell, and Farah all returned from the 2019 reboot, while original series staples Ghost and Soap made their debut in the reboot series alongside the returning General Shepherd. It wasn't without its share of new characters, either, with Mexican Special Forces Colonel Alejandro Vargas front-and-center among the newcomers.

Ghost and Soap, as mentioned above, were the focus of this particular bug, which hit Reddit user Brokensword15 at the end of the campaign mission 'Alone.' Brokensword admits having placed a landmine behind the truck the duo use to try and escape their Shadow Company pursuers during the closing cutscene. As the truck backs up in the cutscene, the landmine detonates, effectively killing the player character mid-cutscene and forcing it to restart before the truck drives over the landmine again.

Several comments point out the bug is likely due to the cutscene being done in-engine as opposed to Modern Warfare 2's other pre-rendered cutscenes. The last several Call of Duty games have used a similar split of cutscenes, with the in-engine cutscenes typically taking into account a player's armed weapon when pulling out to third-person, showing the game takes into account some player actions. In this case, the mine detonation is an extreme example of player-interaction in the cutscene and how it can go wrong.

It is hardly the only bug Modern Warfare 2 players have been encountering, though, as more are starting to show themselves with the game now that it is available. Another strange bug campaign players have encountered has randomly seen missions just come to a halt, forcing players to restart the mission as one player shared when they got stuck on 'Borderline.' Then there are the various multiplayer bugs giving players wall-hacks or outright crashing games, which Infinity Ward will likely address in the game's first few patches.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
