Usually, the first weapon unlocked in a category avoids the extremes, but the Vel 46 is a different beast. When unlocking the SMGs in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, players might be shocked to discover that the first unlocked gun has both a best-in-class and worst-in-class rating.

The Vel 46 has the lowest damage of any SMG and yet has the highest aim down scope rating. Most SMGs in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 have a specific build style. if players want to primarily use the Vel 46, they're going to have to be creative and switch it up a bit.

Attachments

Capitalize on that best-in-class aim down scope time with attachments that further enhance the advantage. No, this SMG will not be a traditional hipfire spray-and-pray weapon, but it makes up for it with superior reaction timing at mid-range.

Considering that most combat is performed at this range, this is not a shabby advantage. It will beat most assault rifles and certainly other SMGs that don't get in close. For gamers that are quick on the draw, this is the loadout that feels almost like cheating due to its speed.

Improve this even more by tuning the weapon to favor damage and aiming down sights.

Secondary Weapon

• Combat Knife

As a mid-range weapon, a handgun doesn't help the build; using one would be a significant downgrade over the Vel 46 itself. The launchers can be tempting, but they slow the player down significantly and are best equipped on outdoor combatants. Since this SMG will try to infiltrate buildings, that's not useful.

That leaves the Combat Knife by default. Use it when getting the drop on somebody, which will happen frequently after getting the full loadout in place. After performing a prestige, weapons will reset, so remember to re-equip this when it gets unlocked the next time around.

Tactical & Lethal Slots

The game has some excellent and diverse maps, so it is important to choose gadgets that can be used in most situations. The greatest enemy of the Vel 46 and several other SMGs is the enemy around the corner. Shotguns and powerful rifles can take them out in one hit, plus they'll have the advantage of firing first.

The Shock Stick and Drill Charge work in tandem. The first disables any equipment or explosives that might be set as traps. The latter will bore through a wall and release an explosion on the other side, killing an ambusher as they wait on the other side.

Perks

The best perks for this loadout are very similar to a stealth build. Although this is not a stealthy build, the perks are beneficial regardless. Scavenger will replace the ammo the player is surely depleting. Double Time allows the Vel 46 build to run everywhere, leaving rooms as soon as opponents think they know where the user is.

Detection ruins this loadout entirely. Although this weapon's speed will win if two combatants see each other at the same time, no weapon is bound to be successful if the enemy sees them first. Between Ghost and Cold-Blooded, the usual methods of gaining this advantage are disabled.

Field Upgrade

There are some top-notch field upgrades out there, don't feel bad grabbing some of the most effective choices. Trophy System disables equipment in an area that can be handy if the Shock Stick is on cooldown or if there is a greater range of potential traps.

DDOS will further scramble the enemy's systems, stacking with the perks nicely. These two work together to maximize the opportunities where the Vel 46 meets an unprepared enemy. That is going to be a winning recipe more often than not.

Killstreak Rewards

The UAV (seeing enemies) and Counter UAV (preventing enemies from seeing the user) are staples in many players' builds. Frankly, long killstreaks are rare, even among the game's hardcore veterans, so having a couple of easy-to-reach killstreaks is a wise idea.

However, the Overwatch Helo is an exception. The helicopter will shoot at enemies outside, killing them in seconds after they are spotted. Even better, the vehicle will mark opponents for the Vel 46, giving them specific directions on where the enemies are to take them out. It's too good to pass up and will all but guarantee victory.

Get the graphics settings just right and this build is unstoppable. The sprinting boosts and quick aiming time allows the Vel 46 to go on longer killstreaks than other SMGs that need to be in close and fired from the hip. Those SMGs have their place as more typical SMGs, but this weapon is unique in its role.
