A gamer replaced the sound effects in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 with the ones from 2009’s Modern Warfare 2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 comes out next month on October 28, and Activision had recently held a beta event for the game. It was only available to PlayStation users in the beginning, before opening up to all gamers across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
2009’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is one of the highest-rated games in the series, and many consider it to be one of the best games in the franchise. It was a follow-up to the immensely popular Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which also received critical acclaim upon its release. Both of these games have been remastered for modern platforms, although the multiplayer portion is absent from Modern Warfare 2’s re-release. With the latest entry in the series on the horizon, one fan shows what the upcoming Modern Warfare 2 sounds like with the audio effects from 2009’s MW2.
A YouTuber named Ghosts619 combines the gameplay from the Modern Warfare 2 beta and the sound effects from the 2009 game. The video begins with an AC-130 killstreak and shows off a bit of gameplay from the Domination mode. Ghosts619 then introduces the video, explaining that footsteps, killstreaks, gun sounds, music, and other ambient sounds have all been replaced by their counterpart from the original Modern Warfare 2. It took Ghosts619 four days to complete the video and he gives users a glimpse at the amount of work that went into making it.
He then asks users to share a tweet with a clip from the video, in the hopes that developer Infinity Ward notices it and considers adding MW2 sounds as an option. This is followed by gameplay footage from a few matches on different maps from the Modern Warfare 2 beta, with a montage of sorts at the end of the various gun sounds. Ghosts619 also mentions that he uploaded a similar video last year in which he replaced Modern Warfare 2019 sounds with the ones from Modern Warfare 2 2009.
Fans in the comment appear impressed by the work and editing skills of Ghosts619. Some users state that they would love for Infinity Ward to add MW2 2009 sound effects to this year’s game as a toggle. Players also share their love for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 from 2009, with many mentioning that this video brought back several memories.
