Some Call of Duty fans share reasons for preferring 2019’s Modern Warfare to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The multiplayer portion of Modern Warfare 2 officially came out on October 28, so fans have had around two months to form an opinion on the game.

Developer Infinity Ward made quite a few changes to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 that differentiate it from 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. It features a new perk system, different gameplay mechanics, and a completely redone UI, but not all changes were met with a positive reception from the Call of Duty player base. Some fans have now listed out the exact reasons they prefer Call of Duty: Modern Warfare to its sequel.

A Reddit user named Jheeezeeesud shares an extensive list of reasons for believing Modern Warfare to be more refined than Modern Warfare 2. Before jumping into the issues, Jheeezeeesud mentions that they prefer the maps in MW2 when compared to its prequel, but states that Modern Warfare was better in several key areas. As an example, the user claims that the visuals of MW were cleaner than MW2, and specifically compares the UI and HUD to Hulu and mobile games respectively.

They state that using killstreaks was much faster in Modern Warfare, in addition to the smoother movement mechanics. They mention that utilizing field upgrades like Dead Silence was simpler due to the lack of an activation animation, while also complaining about the ADS speed of guns in Modern Warfare 2 whenever users have attachments equipped. In the end, Jheeezeeesud believes that Modern Warfare had more love poured into it when compared to Modern Warfare 2.

Other users seem to agree with Jheeezeeesud, as the comments section is filled with players sharing a variety of grievances. One gamer greatly prefers the Ground War game mode in MW, while others lament the lack of a 10v10 playlist. Some users also seem to prefer the perk system in Modern Warfare over Modern Warfare 2.

Despite these complaints, Modern Warfare 2 has been a massive success for Activision and Infinity Ward. It surpassed $800 million in its opening weekend while also beating the record for the biggest launch of a Call of Duty game on the PlayStation Store. Activision has been releasing regular balance updates since Modern Warfare 2 came out, and it’ll be interesting to see if the developer addresses the complaints shared in this post in a future patch.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
