The success of Activision's first-person shooter Call of Duty franchise has extended to all its current offerings, including Modern Warfare, the battle royale Warzone, and Call of Duty: Mobile. The mobile game has been downloaded more than 250 million times, well beyond other mobile spin-offs, and continues to receive content as a result. It is currently preparing to launch Season 8, and a leak from Southeast Asian publisher Garena suggests Vladimir Makarov will be added after it begins.

Makarov is a recurring villain in the series who appeared in the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare trilogy, a well-known terrorist who helped to instigate the world war that characterizes the games' stories. Call of Duty: Mobile developers have already teased the addition of fan-favorite Modern Warfare 2 map Highrise in Season 8,  so it would make sense for a major character from that era to be added into the game as well.

The leaked image from Garena, which depicts Makarov in shadow surrounded by a destroyed cityscape under the title "Apocalypse Day," cannot be found on official channels such as Instagram, but has been preserved by sites like Dexerto. Previously, skins for Season 7's Radioactive Agent theme were leaked by Garena as well, but it appears fans will not have to wait long for official confirmation on any upcoming content as the date on the leaked image is July 11.

Activision's mobile spin-off is like a best-of collection for elements across the series history, including characters, weapons, maps, and game modes. In Season 7, Call of Duty: Mobile added the Gulag from Warzone and Gunfight mode from Modern Warfare.

Both those games also continue to see updates on a seasonal basis. Recently, Activision and Infinity Ward pushed out the Mid-Season 4 Update that "reloaded" Modern Warfare and Warzone with new content including a 200-player battle royale mode, access to the .50 caliber Rytec AMR sniper rifle, and a new multiplayer map in Modern Warfare called Chesire Peak.

Despite the occasional crossover with special items like a watch that Modern Warfare players can unlock by playing Call of Duty: Mobile, the two properties are separate in their offerings. Whatever is added into the mobile game during Season 8 will be all its own, and fans of the old Modern Warfare games will hopefully be excited to see the return of Makarov.
