The latest community update has been posted on the developer-supported Reddit for Call of Duty: Mobile and shares some sparse but tantalizing news about the upcoming Season 3 for the game.
Season 3 is planned for release sometime in mid-January and will introduce new maps, modes, a Battle Pass, and a ranked mode season for battle royale and multiplayer. While the development team doesn’t want to reveal everything about the new maps and modes before its official announcements, it did offer some tidbits to give players a taste of what’s to come.
One of the new multiplayer modes is called Rapid Fire and will only be available for a limited time. It gives players infinite ammo and grenades, faster operator skill cooldowns, and scorestreaks that recharge more quickly. Also incoming is the first Season 3 multiplayer map, Scrapyard, which recreates the classic location from Modern Warfare 2. The medium-sized map is set in an airplane graveyard and will allow players to test their Call of Duty: Mobile skills in close to midrange battles.
Introduced in Black Ops II, scorestreaks are a multiplayer mechanic that rewards players for attaining certain scores without dying. Upon reaching the required score, players can call in special support for their team, such as disabling enemy radar or launching an airstrike. A new scorestreak, a combat drone from Black Ops II called MQ-27 Dragonfire, was made available on January 3 and will be removed on the 12th, so interested COD: Mobile players should be sure to check it out before it’s gone.
Developed by Tencent Games and TiMi Studios, Call of Duty: Mobile is a free-to-play mobile take on the popular first-person shooter franchise. Unlike many mobile ports of well-loved console or PC games, COD: Mobile has been generally well received. It features classic multiplayer combat modes as well as battle royale matches with up to 100 players. One of the biggest complaints from the player base, besides the expected dislike for microtransactions, has been that there is no campaign mode. Instead, the game offers iconic multiplayer maps from both Black Ops and Modern Warfare, as well as the ability to unlock characters, weapons, outfits, and scorestreaks for loadout customization.
Call of Duty: Mobile was released in October 2019 for Android and iOS.
