Activision's Call of Duty franchise is arguably more popular than it has ever been, between its mainline title Modern Warfare being the series' best-selling game and its new battle royale Warzone drawing record-high player counts. The mobile phone spin-off Call of Duty: Mobile is also a popular facet of this current renaissance, and its developers have been announcing lots of new content as a result — including a free weapon players can expect to receive next month.

In a community update posted to the r/CallOfDutyMobile subreddit by Activision Thursday, the company addresses a leaked "apparent marketing image" suggesting the HBRa3 assault rifle would be available as a free in-game option by letting players know that it is going to be released in June for the global version of Call of Duty: Mobile. This new free weapon will join other "free and earnable" variant of the Locus, Pharo, Cordite, and Outlaw made available throughout May, and Activision says it hopes to release even more "in the next seasonal release."

The current season of content in the mobile title, called "Once Upon a Time in Rust" in reference to the newly added fan-favorite map, will be ongoing through at least the end of the month according to a Season 6 Road Map released last week, and includes various new modes, seasonal challenges, and the ongoing Call of Duty: Mobile World Championship qualifier matches.

Another way Activision has been encouraging fans of the first-person shooter franchise to pick up the mobile title alongside major releases like Modern Warfare and Warzone is by implementing crossover cosmetic items. By linking up their accounts for those games and Call of Duty: Mobile, players are able to receive a free watch that is described as "featherweight, reliable, and obnoxiously hard to lose."

This special-edition watch is just one piece of content that Activision and Infinity Ward have made available in the major Call of Duty titles, which are also seeing updates alongside the mobile game. Recently a new multiplayer Operator named Iskra was added for use in both Modern Warfare and Warzone.

At the same time, the developer has been working on fixing cheating in its popular titles. Call of Duty: Warzone added two-step authentication for example, and with these kinds of issues as well as bugs being addressed across all platforms there should be plenty of room for players to experiment with new weapons.

Call of Duty: Mobile is available now on Android and iOS devices.
