Call of Duty Ghosts Coop

Infinity Ward has confirmed cooperative play will return for Call of Duty: Ghosts, but they won't say in what form it will return just yet. Most have been speculating that Ghosts will feature some riff on the Spec Ops mode, but as of right now we don't know.

Another easy candidate for a Call of Duty: Ghosts cooperative element would be a full co-op campaign. Ghosts focusing on only two protagonists — brothers, in fact — this time around so it's conceivable that the game would let a duo play as each main character.

At the same time, Infinity Ward's Community Coordinator Candice Capen hints that Ghosts will feature a dedicated co-op mode. In a Twitter conversation with a Call of Duty fan, she confirmed Call of Duty: Ghosts will have a cooperative mode, but had no idea when, or if, Infinity Ward was going to make a formal announcement.

@doyneamite @markderidder we'll have a cooperative mode of sort, but we're not announcing it yet and I've no clue when/if we will

To that end, Capen used the qualifier "of sort" in her tweet, which leads us to believe the cooperative element in Call of Duty: Ghosts might be something a little different. Spec Ops has been a longstanding staple of the Infinity Ward brand of Call of Duty, but perhaps it is time to try something new. Again, that could be a full cooperative campaign, but there can be arguments made for and against that type of mode.

Another potential candidate is a revamped version of Spec Ops: Survival, Modern Warfare 3's take on the popular wave-based horde concept. In Survival, teams of two would try their best to survive an escalating number of combatants.

After each round, players could use their accumulated points to purchase new weapons, attachments, artillery strikes, and various other killstreaks. Spec Ops: Survival was a fine addition to the franchise, one that could benefit from a second go-round, but maybe it's time for something new.

For that matter, Infinity Ward has yet to detail the multiplayer in Call of Duty: Ghosts and what new features it will be bringing to the table. Historically, that announcement trailer has arrived some time in September — Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer was revealed at Call of Duty XP 2011 — but we have yet to hear any news either way.

If/when Infinity Ward chooses to reveal Call of Duty: Ghosts' cooperative mode/element, we will make sure to bring you first details.

What type of cooperative mode would you like to see from Call of Duty: Ghosts? Do you want to see something like Spec Ops or Spec Ops: Survival, or something different?

Call of Duty: Ghosts releases November 5, 2013 for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. PS4 and Xbox One release dates have not been announced.
