It's high time that the world starts appreciating video games at least as much as it does film. While the gaming industry is rarely covered in the news media, save for the occasional misguided attack pieces on certain titles for their use of violence, the medium has the ability to tell stories just as well as cinema can. Plus, if sales are any indication, video games often eclipse the annual gross of Hollywood's output, possibly indicating a shift in people's preferred mode of escapism from movies to games.

Activision thoroughly understands this trend, as the publisher has deftly subverted the visual storytelling paradigm for the past few years by including a lot of well-known film stars in its releases. Today, for instance, the company's Call of Duty developing partner, Sledgehammer Games, has added B-movie legend Bruce “Boomstick” Campbell to the battle for survival in their Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare – Exo Zombies Carrier Supremacy DLC pack.

Teased as a surprise guest in a trailer for the Advanced Warfare Supremacy DLC, Campbell joins an already stellar cast that includes Rose McGowan, John Malkovich, Bill Paxton, and Jon Bernthal. The actor's inclusion is perfectly tongue-in-cheek since Bruce Campbell's known for his zombie-slaying as Ash Williams in the original Evil Dead film trilogy.

After dropping in as Sentinel pilot Captain Lennox, Campbell's character adds further turmoil and intensity to Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare's Exo Zombies: Carrier narrative after an initially inexplicable execution of Oz, who happens to be one of his own. But before the truth can come to light, the crew must join forces with Lennox to survive the undead onslaught on an Atlas research vessel.

Bruce Campbell's no stranger to video game voice acting. He's lent his sonorous vocals to a slew of other titles, such as The Amazing Spider-Man, Pitfall 3D: Beyond the Jungle, and the extremely underrated Evil Dead: Hail to the King. Frankly, adding the thespian's abilities to the Exo Zombies: Carrier story makes the game seem even more fun than before, as Campbell's campy, yet confident swagger fits in immaculately with the title's over-the-top gameplay.

There's no doubt that the COD franchise is a global gaming phenomenon. For example, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was the best-selling game of 2014, and it looks as if the series shows no sign of slowing down any time soon. Of course, it comes as no surprise, particularly with Sledgehammer Games offering up such an action-packed zombies mode, as well as a bunch of other cool DLC for purchase individually or in a season pass bundle.

Players can get Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare – Exo Zombies Carrier with the Supremacy DLC pack that will be available tomorrow on June 2nd for Xbox 360 and Xbox One. It will likely release for PC, PS3, and PS4 about a month or so later, at some point in July.
