Call of Duty recently pulled the curtain back on its 2021 Halloween event, aka The Haunting. The Haunting will see new Halloween-themed content make its way to both Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, with fans able to look forward to limited-time cosmetics, game modes, and much more. While detailing the Halloween-themed game mode coming to Call of Duty: Warzone as part of The Haunting event, Activision equated camping to "cowardice."
As part of its Halloween event, Call of Duty: Warzone is adding a new mode called Ghosts of Verdansk. The Ghosts of Verdansk limited-time mode is similar to the Zombie Royale mode from last year, but it replaces zombies with ghosts. It also adds a new gimmick where Call of Duty: Warzone players have to manage a Fear meter. If Call of Duty: Warzone players let their Fear meter get out of control, they can suffer from hallucinations, with something especially bad happening if the Fear meter hits 100%.
Activision gave some examples of what can make a Call of Duty: Warzone player's Fear meter fill up during The Haunting event. This includes taking damage, seeing dead bodies or ghosts, having squadmates downed or eliminated, and even camping, which Activision describes as "cowardice." Basically, this means Call of Duty: Warzone players can't stay in one spot if they don't want their Fear meter to fill up, which should encourage more aggressive play.
Camping in Call of Duty and first-person shooter games in general is somewhat of a controversial subject. Many have criticized camping as a cheap way to play the game, whereas others have argued that it is a legitimate strategy. Call of Duty: Warzone has its fair share of campers, and in fact, the game actually seems to encourage camping in many situations, so some may find it amusing that Activision went out of its way to equate camping to cowardice.
How harshly camping will be punished in the new Call of Duty: Warzone Ghosts of Verdansk mode remains to be seen, but fans don't have to wait too much longer to find out. The Haunting event in Call of Duty: Warzone starts October 19 and lasts until November 2. The Call of Duty: Warzone Ghostface skin, the Ghosts of Verdansk mode, and all the other Halloween-themed content will remain in the battle royale game until then, so anyone interested has a couple of weeks to check it all out.
