After the big fiasco and uproar from angry gamers about the lack of dedicated servers, Activision is changing their ways again, this time for the better. Activision and Treyarch announced that GameServers.com will be the exclusive providers of dedicated servers for Call of Duty: Black Ops, this affects the PC version only of course. There is a catch to this news though, but it is not the worst news possible.

According to the GameServers.com website, on their Pre-Order page, dedicated servers for Black Ops will have some different price schemes. Ranked servers, with a maximum of 18 players will cost $14.95 a month. They do have discounts for monthly pre-paid plans, though. Unranked servers will only cost you $0.99 a month per player, with a maximum of 24 players. Along with that, Teamspeak will also cost your server an additional monthly fee, but there will be a discount for those that order a three, six, or twelve month prepaid plan.

Treyarch's community manager, Josh Olin, wanted to emphasize that Treyarch-hosted dedicated servers will remain free. So for all you penny pinches and poor college students, you can still play on an officially hosted dedicated server rather than resorting to peer-to-peer. Olin also maintained that if you do choose to rent a server you will still have to the ability to Kick, Ban, and Configure the server the way you want. Unless it is a ranked server, then you won't be able to configure it too much, to help avoid rank hacks and cheating. You will still have admin power over obnoxious players that perhaps need to get kicked.

After the blow to gamers with no dedicated servers in Modern Warfare 2, I think this is wonderful news for PC gamers looking forward to Black Ops. You have dedicated servers through Treyarch that are free to play, so you have the PC feel of joining and finding games, along with the ability to host your own dedicated server to have a room for you and your friends or clan.

Call of Duty: Black Ops is set to release November 9th, 2010 for PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii, and Nintendo DS.
