Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has experienced its fair share of bugs, both in Zombies and multiplayer. The latest bug discovered within 2020’s CoD offering is surprisingly beneficial, though Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players should be warned that it removes one of the game’s main grinds.

For those who are not interested in going down the rewarding but difficult path to secure Dark Matter in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, a new bug has been discovered that instantly rewards the sought-after camouflage option. While this may sound enticing to those looking to get the camo while also skipping the grind, replicating the bug seems unlikely considering that the person it happened to has no clue what caused it.

YouTuber HamiiHamii showed off the gorgeous Dark Matter camo on various weapons, though the player was quite honest about the unlock being undeserved. Tweeting out “unlocked Dark Matter... apparently,” the Call of Duty player tagged Treyarch to warn them of the Dark Matter unlock bug. In a follow-up tweet, the YouTuber provided a bit of context as to where the bug occurred, with the random unlock coming after a game of Zombies.

HamiiHamii shares that he unlocked a random MP5 camo while attempting to use the new Black Ops Cold War Zombies exfil system. He died shortly, and in place of the camo that was actually unlocked by the player sat Dark Matter, fully usable on every gun. With a series of 0s in place of a challenge name, the camo unlock was clearly a bug and not an intentional trick hidden in the game by Treyarch.

While some players would be happy to skip past Black Ops Cold War’s camo challenges, HamiiHamii was a bit disappointed by the bug. After grinding through multiple categories of weaponry, he only had a few weapon types to go. Saying that he was “truly excited almost being finished with the grind,” the player shares hopes that Treyarch will see the post and fix the problem. While it is nice to see that the dedicated player still got their Dark Matter, it is a shame that the process of earning it was tainted by an early unlock.

While it is unlikely that the glitch will be replicated, players looking to snag some sneaky Dark Matter camos can try doing so now by messing with camo unlocks during exfil windows in Black Ops Cold War Zombies. With big updates on the way for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, this glitch will likely not remain in the game for long.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
