Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War features the strongest version of the Ray Gun in years. While a newly discovered bug does not take away this strength, it does give Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players an interesting sight.

This newfound Ray Gun issue is hardly the first visual glitch found in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies. In fact, another player recently posted a clip that saw Die Maschine being transformed into MadWorld. The bug in question looked like a filter was placed over the game, as everything from the zombies to the player’s gun were turned black, white, and red. While this new visual glitch is a bit less extreme, it is surprising for those familiar with the Ray Gun’s default appearance.

Since Call of Duty Zombies first began, the Ray Gun Wonder Weapon has been inseparable from the mode. Available on the first map, Nacht Der Untoten, the gun has followed Zombies fans through every Treyarch-made Call of Duty game. While Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s Dark Aether storyline did present an opportunity to leave the weapon behind, Treyarch brought back the beloved gun once again. However, it lacks its red coloring in Geek-Gaming-101’s game of Outbreak.

While the traditional Ray Gun boasts an iconic color scheme, as the un-Pack-A-Punched version of the weapon has kept the same look since 2008, this player’s variant is all black. Seen picking it up in the Golova region after killing an Orda, the entirety of the gun is jet black. While this is clearly just a texture bug, as the other colors have not loaded in properly, most commenters seem to agree that the weapon is cool and stylish as opposed to ugly and unfinished. With the area on the front of the weapon where the energy is usually seen being a different shade of black, this Ray Gun looks outstanding.

While unlikely, Redditors like playerlxiv would like the option to create unique Wonder Weapon looks like this. The fan suggests adding camos onto Wonder Weapons, letting players make various versions of the Ray Gun and other top-tier guns. Still, with the weapons not being selectable in loadouts, it is hard to imagine how Treyarch would make such functionality work. Regardless, players now have an idea of what a dark Ray Gun looks like, and it seems like many want to see it in their games.

For those looking to replicate this visual glitch, it seems tied to Outbreak’s Orda boss. With Geek-Gaming-101 needing to kill a buggy, invisible Orda to make it drop, it seems like there is a lot of luck involved in getting this fancy Ray Gun variant.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
