Like the other games in the series, the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War meta is constantly changing. A new weapon balancing pass will see the meta changing further, and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War fans can expect a few specific classes to get adjustments.

The most recent Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War weapon changes saw some popular guns adjusted. The overpowered Stoner 63 took a bit of a hit, while the Streetsweeper shotgun lost its one-hit-kill potential. The AUG received a mixture of buffs and nerfs, while the FFAR was buffed in several ways. However, the balancing pass that will arrive next week is set to adjust entire weapon classes as opposed to specific guns — and one class adjustment stands out.

In Treyarch’s tweet that teased the update, it was confirmed that Snipers, Assault Rifles, LMGs, and Pistols would all be seeing changes. In the case of pistols, players should prepare for some dual wield-related changes. For LMGs, more range nerfs are likely, as the guns have been too dominant in large modes like Combined Arms. For Assault Rifles, a mixture of buffs and nerfs are likely, as Treyarch will surely aim to keep the guns on par with SMGs. However, the mention of Sniper changes is the most exciting.

Since launch, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War fans have been divided on Sniper Rifles. Some fans want buffs while others want nerfs, though just about everyone agrees that the category is not in the right place. While fans of sniping hate the slow ADS time of the Rifles, those being killed by Sniper users are frustrated by the lack of flinch. As a result, Treyarch may rework the class so that Sniper Rifles plays more like they did in old games. Flinch may be increased heavily to make snipers easier to fight, while a simultaneous buff to ADS speed could make quickscoping easier.

At the same time, this could be wishful thinking on the part of fans, as one or neither change may occur. In the update teaser, Treyarch also mentioned that it would be sharing details on the upcoming Zombies content via a blog post. Fans can expect some more insight into Outbreak’s main quest easter egg, as well as any new features that could be accompanying it. A teaser for Season 4’s rumored Berlin map is also possible, which would certainly please those wanting more Survival content.

With the 80s Action Heroes event also going live on May 20, fans have a lot to be excited for. While more details patch notes will come next week, too, the tease of class-based weapon changes is certainly promising.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
