As part of the integration process, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty: Warzone share the same Seasonal format. As such, both games can be played to work on the Battle Pass, with shared Prestige mode progression seen as well. With Season 2 quickly winding down, though, Call of Duty fans may be wondering when the two games will be officially entering into a fresh Season of content.

While nothing official has been said regarding the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty: Warzone Season 3 start date, past patterns have provided a clear indication as to when the Season will begin. Further, Season 2’s official end date has been confirmed, making the launch day for the third Season even more likely. With plenty of interesting content on the way for both of the active Call of Duty games, this new Season is shaping up to be massive.

The Season 3 Start Date

Currently, both Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War are in the midst of Season 2 Reloaded. Marking the halfway point of every Season, this setup has become tradition, with its very existence confirming that players are quickly approaching the start of a new Season. For Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, this midseason update has brought a new Sniper Rifle, a new Zombies Onslaught game mode and Outbreak Region, and new multiplayer maps. For Call of Duty: Warzone, Season 2 Reloaded has added fresh Zombie locations and teasers for the incoming nuke event.

Season 2 Reloaded will not be lasting much longer, however. Come April 21, the Season will go offline, meaning that players with an interest in the Seasonal Calling Card challenges will need to unlock them sooner rather than later. Fortunately, past Call of Duty Seasons have proven that there is nearly no downtime between the end of a Reloaded Season and the start of a fresh Season of content. In fact, players can expect Season 3 to begin the very next day, likely flicking on right after the in-game timer runs down on the third Season.

Assuming this pattern holds true, fans can prepare for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty: Warzone Season 3 to begin on April 22. Players can also expect the update to be fairly large for both games, as there is rumored to be a lot of content coming to both titles in this third Season. As such, fans that have the ability to pre-load Call of Duty updates should take advantage of the feature, as most people will likely need a good bit of time to prepare the game.

What Might Season 3 Add For Black Ops Cold War?

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War should be a major beneficiary of this new update, with the multiplayer community likely getting the standard lineup of content with a few surprises tossed in for good measure. Some new 6v6 maps, a new Fireteam map, and a new 2v2 offering are all very real possibilities. Some fresh game modes are possible as well, while new weapons are all-but guaranteed. Based on leaks, a gun like the Galil is likely, while the Ballistic Knife has been rumored for some time now. If the launchable blade does join the Crossbow special weapon, all the necessary tools will be in place for the Sticks and Stones party mode to return.

Call of Duty Zombies fans should expect some new Outbreak content, as the open world offering has proven to be an incredible success with the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War community. Not only are more side easter eggs like the special radio quest possible, but a main story quest has been officially confirmed for the mode as well. While this could be saved for the midseason update, players have been assured that it will arrive sometime in the next few months, so those interested in a proper story mission have plenty to be excited about. A new region is likely, too, with the map probably being the same as whatever Fireteam addition is made next season.

Leaks have also indicated that a new Survival map will be released in Season 3. The first since Firebase Z debuted at the end of Season 1, teasers for the map have heavily implied that Berlin will be the setting. Players will apparently explore the areas around the classic map Kino Der Toten, with a new Wonder Weapon likely being introduced as well. In terms of story, plenty more intel will surely be added, with a big development like Eddie’s return likely on the way. Much like with multiplayer, a fresh batch of Seasonal challenges will be added, as will more Prestige levels.

What Might Season 3 Add For Warzone?

Call Of Duty Warzone Nuke

Season 3 is an even bigger deal for Call of Duty: Warzone players, as the heavily anticipated nuke event seems set to launch on April 22 as well. Players will supposedly see a Plague game mode added, with the mode tasking fans with clearing out the areas infected by Zombies. As part of this PvE game mode, the nuke will be dropped, giving gamers a brief window to escape from Verdansk. From there, players will see the old map decimated, ushering in a new era for the battle royale game.

Instead of seeing will seeing the long-rumored Ural Mountains map, it appears that players will be getting a redesigned version of Verdansk instead. Taking place back in the 1980s, aspects of the map will be changed, with areas like the Dam becoming a bridge and Verdansk’s Stadium still under construction. While it may not be the full new location that fans had hoped for, its theme will suit the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Operators. It should play differently enough as well, with the fresh locations offering some much-needed gameplay variety.

Finally, Call of Duty: Warzone fans can expect some major nerfs to the FFAR and AUG. With the pairing dominating the game for several weeks now, their downfall is long overdue. With Season 3 being the perfect time for change, a new meta will likely start to take shape, giving fans a brief break from the dominance of certain guns. While other changes may come as well, these will seemingly be the highlights of Season 3 — and players are less than three weeks away from experiencing this fresh content themselves.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty: Warzone are available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
