Challenges have been integral to the Call of Duty experience for years, and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is no different. However, while Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has a lot of challenges to complete, players are taking issue with some objectives being tied directly to Call of Duty: Warzone.

This is not the first time that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War fans have called out these Call of Duty: Warzone challenges. Back in December, players began to point out the issue, with several posts in January bringing up the issue once again. However, with nothing being done, players are once again beginning to call for change, as the Call of Duty: Warzone-exclusive challenges impact both Operator skin unlocks and seasonal challenge progress.

Twitter user @raevenzlol took to the social media platform to call out how this decision prevents some fans from unlocking skins for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s operators. Making the point that “Warzone is nothing like CW,” as both boast different engines and gameplay styles, the player questioning why the challenges are interlinked between the two games has a fair argument to make. Since completing every seasonal challenge is impossible without also playing Call of Duty: Warzone, the issue only seems to get worse.

With Call of Duty: Warzone’s operator challenges already being buggy, making skins for the latest Black Ops game’s operators only obtainable through an entirely separate battle royale title is a confusing choice. It is easy to see why fans feel that it is unfair to force players who only enjoy Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War to play Call of Duty: Warzone as well. Players may not like battle royale games, lack the skill inside them to complete the challenges, or simply not have the storage space to keep both games on their console.

Redditors like TLucas123 have brought attention to the issue as well. Using a skin for the popular character Park as an example, the player calls for Treyarch to “stop putting Warzone challenges in Cold War.” They then suggest a system that offers a different skin challenge for both games, which would surely satisfy fans of both Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty: Warzone. The post amassed thousands of upvotes and dozens of comments supporting this potential change, though Treyarch has not commented on the topic.

As of now, it remains to be seen if the community reaction is enough to warrant a change. With Call of Duty Zombies fans forced to play multiplayer to unlock different melee weapons and the Streetsweeper shotgun, though, this challenge issue clearly runs deep.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
