While Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies’ Survival mode is the easiest in the franchise, Outbreak is entirely different. Brutal and time-consuming, those playing the open-world Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War mode need to make use of smart strategies to get far — though InsomniaVirus has taken this to a new level.

The Call of Duty Zombies fan set out to obtain a new world record, doing this and then some. The player reached world tier 1,000 in their match, an accomplishment that has blown away several of InsomniaVirus’ fellow gamers. While they had accomplished impressive feats in the past, like round 351 in Season 1 and round 476 in Season 2, neither can compare to what the player has done in Season 3. Thankfully, just like the other records, the skilled zombie slayer has streamed the entire run.

During their run, InsomniaVirus avoids using Outbreak’s new level skip feature, doing every world tier one-by-one. A painstakingly long process, this shows incredible dedication on the part of the Outbreak player. With some of the mode’s objectives taking around four minutes to complete, the regions can only be sped through so fast. The result is a match that lasted 100 full hours, with InsomniaVirus slowly progressing through the tiers across 14 days of streams. To avoid disconnects, the player set this record via an offline game.

Having clearly mastered the mode, the streamer succeeds several times in all of Outbreak’s objectives. This includes Holdout, the task that is widely regarded as the hardest to complete. InsomniaVirus details his strategy for anyone watching the stream, and it primarily relies on the RAI K-84 Wonder Weapon. Using the alternate fire to consistently shoot the ground, the slowing effect works wonders on mini bosses like Megatons and Mimics. While this does see them getting dangerously close on a few occasions, InsomniaVirus seems unphased. He also uses stun grenades and the Death Machine scorestreak as his backup plan.

Eventually, InsmoniaVirus hit world tier 1,000, beating the round to see if the counter continued. It did, as tier 1,001 now showed in the corner of the skilled player’s screen. Proud of their accomplishment, the player ended the stream, with many Zombies fans taking to Reddit to applaud his efforts. EquivalentConcert’s thread is packed with positive comments, as well as players genuinely shocked that the game did not crash. With the run happening on a PS4, and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War bugs being common, it is easy to understand why fans were concerned.

Against all odds, InsomniaVirus has set an incredible record inside of Zombies Outbreak. While many will surely be fighting for the top speedrunning position once Outbreak’s main quest arrives, few will have the endurance to challenge for the mode’s new high round record.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
