Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has confirmed the start date for the game's first season, continuing the trend of seasonal content rollouts that started in Modern Warfare. While the content included within the seasonal update was left intentionally vague, it does give fans an idea of what to expect from the title in the months after launch.

While it won't release until a few weeks after launch, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 1 will kick off on December 10, bringing with it a variety of new content for players to enjoy. There were no details provided about the specifics, but Activision and Treyarch have now confirmed that Season 1 will bring new maps, modes, and weapons. The new modes also extend to Cold War's Zombies, which is a good sign for fans hoping for additional Zombies updates in the future.

In the image announcing the new content, Woods is seen in what appears to be a shopping mall, which may fuel speculation about the nature of the map that will be added. Notably, the announcement also confirms the addition of iconic Call of Duty map Nuketown, which has been heavily featured in the series since the original Black Ops, but was absent from Modern Warfare.

One of the other interesting teases is the Warzone content that fans will get. Simply listed as "Classified Warzone Experience," the Cold War Season 1 announcement shows a bloody, heavily redacted document and part of a map. It's possible that the content will just be some sort of limited-time mode or event, but with how heavily Activision is investing in Warzone, it could be something on a much larger scale, though that's pure speculation.

For the most part, the content is in line with what fans have come to expect from new seasons of Modern Warfarewhich has steadily introduced new maps, weapons, operators, and more since launch. It's a stark departure from Call of Duty's older system, which for years included the release of separate map packs, though the new system does keep the community from getting divided.

Neither an end date for the season nor hints at a mid-season update has been provided, though fans will likely find out more about those as Season 1 gets closer. The game launches in just about a week, so it won't be long until players are able to dive into Black Ops Cold War themselves to see everything it has to offer.
