With the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War campaign ending on a cliffhanger, the narrative was continued throughout the game’s post-launch Seasons. Now, that story has come to a close, with the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 6 outro cinematic letting players witness one last discussion between Stitch and Adler.

In the Season 6 intro, original Black Ops protagonist Alex Mason stepped into the story to help Adler overcome his brainwashing. Visualized via the multiplayer map Deprogram, Stitch had done a lot of damage to Adler’s mind, though Mason’s experience as a victim of the Numbers program allowed him to help Adler break free from the mind control. With Adler back in action, he joined Woods, Mason, and Hudson to take down Stitch.

While players may have expected to see some intense final fight between the two characters, similar to the one from the Season 1 outro, that does not happen in this scene. Instead, the two adversaries share a lengthy conversation that serves as an interesting recap of their shared history. Through this dialogue, Stitch reveals that the Perseus players were hunting in the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War campaign was dead the entire time.

Stitch tells Adler that the Perseus the CIA was focused on died back in 1983, with cancer killing the Russian agent. He then reiterates the idea that Perseus is not a single person, but a symbol. As such, Stitch is Perseus, as are his fellow agents Naga and Wraith. He warns that another Perseus will rise up if he is killed, possibly hinting at a sequel to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. As for Adler, he is unsure whether to kill Stitch or take him into custody for the entirety of the scene.

Eventually, though, it becomes clear that Stitch had drove Adler to his breaking point, with the final moments of the cinematic showing Adler put a gun to Stitch’s head. Stitch touches his eye, acknowledging that Adler took it from him years prior on Rebirth Island. After telling him to “finish what he started” and that his “life no longer matters,” Stitch warns that his actions in Verdansk will have an impact in the future. The scene then cuts to black after this ominous warning, with a gunshot being heard.

While it remains to be seen if Stitch’s plan results in some kind of payoff during a future game, it does seem like Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War fans have seen the end of his story. As for Adler, it is unclear what happens to him after he kills Stitch, though with all he has been through, retirement would certainly make sense.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
