Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 5 is just a few days away. With only one more Season planned beyond Season 5, it seems like Treyarch is pulling out all the stops for its last few content drops. While Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s Season 5 Zombies content is varied, ranging from a new Outbreak region to an additional perk, multiplayer fans are the ones that should be particularly excited about August 12.

The latest Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season is bringing the most multiplayer maps thus far, with the locations all aimed at the game’s most popular modes. On top of this, a brand-new mode is coming that has the potential to be a massive hit, while a fan-requested classic is joining the playlist rotation. Overall, the Season offers a lot to be hyped about, and it shows that community feedback has made a significant impact on the quality of the game.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 5’s Large Map Count

Thus far, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s post-launch Seasons have brought a handful of maps for players to enjoy. While the count has been between three and four maps each Season, it is important to note that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players have not always been pleased with the modes that the maps feature in. For example, a decent amount of post-launch maps are aimed at the game’s Multi-Team modes, with 6v6 players left wanting more.

This Season, though, 6v6 players are the focus. Only one non-6v6 map is being added, and instead of targeting the less popular modes, Showroom will be playable in Gunfight. This means that four of the five new maps will target the game’s 12-player playlists, ensuring that most of the game’s community is being catered too. With other Seasons having three 6v6 maps at most, the Season 5 map lineup is a huge step in the right direction.

The map variety in Season 5 is also worthy of some praise. Echelon will be brand-new, with the location having never been seen in a Call of Duty game before. On the other hand, the return of Slums should keep Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 players interested, while Zoo should work well based on how the Outbreak region plays. Though another remaster will feature in the form of Drive-In, this map has never been brought back before. With it also being DLC for the very first Black Ops, it is an obscure choice that many Call of Duty fans have never experienced. With a zoo, drive-in theater, alleyways, and military base all becoming playable this Season, fans can expect some hugely different map layouts and visuals.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 5’s Promising Game Modes

Outside of having more maps than expected, the Season 5 update is bringing in two new game modes. One of these is Demolition, a mode that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players have been asking for ever since the game launched. With the mode tasking players with destroying or defending two bomb sites and taking place across multiple rounds, Demolition matches often last a while. This leads to high kill counts, something that has made past versions of Demolition a huge hit with fans.

Double Agent is a brand-new mode coming in Season 5, and it should be familiar to fans of Among Us. The mode sees players assigned various roles, with the Double Agent stealthily killing players and planting explosives around the map. The Investigator tracks down Double Agents, while Operatives can kill the Double Agents once the Investigator has revealed their identities. The mode also features a looting stage at the start of the match where players can gather weapons, which could be a lot of fun.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s scorestreaks are spread throughout the different roles, with players getting special scorestreaks depending on which objective they are given. With the mode relying on voice chat and teamwork, it could end up being a major hit on streaming platforms. With it also being entirely new to the franchise, it is a perfect contrast to the returning Demolition game mode.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 5 Shows That Treyarch Is Listening

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 5 shows that Treyarch is continuing to listen to the community. When the game released, the only thing discussed more than its many bugs was a lack of content. However, the content issue has slowly been fading away, and Season 5 looks shows just how much the game has improved. Compared to Season 2’s maps, which were criticized since only one of the maps was made available in 6v6 play, Season 5 is the complete opposite. On top of adding the right kind of maps to the game, Season 5 is making some welcome balancing changes. With a nerf for the LC10 promised, fans are once again being heard.

As for the game modes, the return of Demolition continues this trend of fan demands being met. Capture The Flag and Demolition were the most heavily requested game modes, and once Season 5 releases, both will be in the game. With Treyarch also making modes like Cranked Hardpoint permanent after fan's made their love for them clear, the developer is clearly aware of the feedback that the game has been getting. The addition of Double Agent also shows a willingness to try new things, something that is exciting given how far Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is into its life cycle.

With the usual lineup of fresh weapons and new Operators coming to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War as well, there is a whole lot for multiplayer fans to be excited for this Season. Those looking for something new have maps like Echelon and modes like Double Agent to enjoy, while nostalgic players can have some fun playing Demolition on a map like Slums. Not only does this upcoming Season have something for everyone, but more than any other Season thus far, it shows just how much progress the game has made since its rocky launch.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
