Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War fans waiting to see where the game’s story will go next now have some idea of how things could be wrapping up. In a new intro cinematic for Season 5 of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Kitsune helps Stitch execute his master plan.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s fifth Season is almost here, as it will be kicking off on August 12. While there is plenty to be excited about, including a new weapon and battle pass, the Season will also be progressing the game’s ongoing story. As is usually the case, the biggest moment comes at the start of the Season, with a special intro cinematic finally gives fans insight into what Stitch has been planning for so long.

At the start of the cutscene, players get a close look at the new Operator Kitsune. Boasting a unique style that sees her covered in tattoos and wearing an eyepatch, she can be seen hacking into a terminal at the Echelon station. Mentioned during a recent leak for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, the base will likely function as a brand-new multiplayer map for the game. While Kitsune does her hacking, Woods and another Operator can be seen approaching the site in a helicopter. When they land, however, they are caught off guard.

In Metal Gear Solid-like fashion, Stitch has found a way to weaponize the Numbers. As such, it seems like the long process required to brainwash Russel Adler is no longer required. While Woods and the other Operator do corner Kitsune, she activates the remote numbers and brainwashes Woods’ men. While Woods obviously survives the attack, he is injured, and the other Operator helps him make a last-second escape. Kitsune then leaves, with Stitch saying that the “broadcast is now live.”

It seems like this remote brainwashing is occurring in Verdansk as well, setting up a possible encounter where players finally take Stitch down. While he is activating a lot of sleeper agents with this broadcast, it is unclear what he plans to do with all the soldiers he has brought to his side. Much like the Season 4 outro cutscene set up Season 5, however, players can expect the next big story reveal to happen in Season 5’s outro. With just one Season left to go, Stitch’s endgame will have to be revealed sooner rather than later.

With the original Black Ops protagonist Alex Mason being an expert on the Numbers, as he suffered from them firsthand, perhaps this could be the time to make him playable. This is purely speculation, however, as it is unclear who will take on the starring role of Season 6.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
