While most Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies fans are looking forward to the new Outbreak content in Season 2, PlayStation users have some extra additions to be excited about as well. Arriving with tomorrow’s midseason update, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will see some key improvements made to Onslaught.

Though Zombies Onslaught has been improved since launch, it still has some issues that have kept the mode from being popular with many players. Thus far, the two-player mode has felt repetitive and slow, with Onslaught also proving to be overly difficult for a few reasons. However, the Season 2 Reloaded additions seem to be changing that, as Treyarch looks to be addressing the biggest issues with Zombies Onslaught via some new content.

First, a new Containment game mode is being added to Onslaught. Though few details have been provided, Treyarch has confirmed the mode will play out on Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s Gunfight maps. These small locations should speed up the mode greatly, as players will be facing off against hordes of the undead far more often. With some of Onslaught’s other maps seeing Zombies take ages to reach the player, the close quarters Gunfight maps should not have this issue.

Treyarch has also mentioned that steps are being taken to make Onslaught fairer, as the mode is currently too random and lacks a proper sense of progression. Currently, players see their damage falling off incredibly quick, while the mode only allowing level one armor drops has seen Call of Duty Zombies fans rarely feeling protected. However, players will now be able to secure level two and three armor. Further, Onslaught is getting a Pack-A-Punch system that sees guns being upgraded when securing bronze, silver, and gold chalices.

While these changes are welcome and could make the mode significantly better, players on Xbox and PC will likely have no interest in this content. Much like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019’s Survival game mode, Zombies Onslaught will not be arriving on those platforms until November 2021. While this situation is surely disappointing for non-PlayStation players, one of the few positives is that Xbox and PC users will be getting a better version of Onslaught when it does arrive.

While the mode has taken some time to become worth gamers’ time, these Outbreak changes seem like a major step in the right direction. With an Onslaught-exclusive Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War blueprint also being added in the midseason update, now seems like the perfect time to give the mode a try.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
