Fans of the Zombies mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War may not be getting a new map to play on until Season 2, but there will still be some new content for players to enjoy in the first season. Through a blog post and during a stream, Treyarch has detailed what Jingle Hells and Cranked will look like in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies.

More than just cosmetics thrown on plaguehounds and zombies, there is some actual depth to the Jingle Hells playlist. While the Season 1 Zombies mode was teased a few days back, it has now been described and shown in action, revealing the core gameplay loop that Zombies fans can expect. Jingle Hells begins with a Megaton dressed as Santa Claus flying over the map in his sleigh, bringing Die Maschine’s mystery box along with him.

As detailed in the Zombies segment of the Season 1 livestream, the new way for players to obtain weapons was revealed. With the coveted Mystery Box gone, the undead will now drop Naughty and Nice presents. If players are rewarded with a Nice present, a random gun will be provided, with a Naughty present doing something bad — like spawning a zombie or dropping a grenade at the player’s feet. A “stocking power-up” is also mentioned, though it is unclear how it will be obtained.

The presents can be obtained by freezing the Zombies using snowballs dotted around Die Maschine, a mechanic that was seen in the Zombies map Tag Der Toten. Beyond that, players can find gear (and more hidden Zombies) within the snowmen populating the festive map. Players will not have to wait long to try out the special mechanics and see the “new holiday decorations” on the map, as it will be available during the launch week of Season 1.

Zombies fans can expect to see Cranked as well, though this other Limited Time Mode will arrive later in the season. Like the version of Cranked seen in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and other Call of Duty games, players will be put on a time limit as they face off against the mode’s endless hordes of zombies. Every kill adds a second to the timer, with a “Cranked power-up” that adds larger chunks of time. If the timer falls to 0, they will explode instantly and the match will end.

While Cranked sounds like an interesting spin on the traditional Call of Duty Zombies experience, players will need to wait until an unspecified date to play the mode. Until then, longtime Call of Duty Zombies fans can enjoy the holiday festivities of Jingle Hells, as the mode drops later today.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
