Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launched onto next-gen platforms with ray-tracing enabled. While fans have disputed its effects on the in-game graphics, many console fans have noticed something seems off when enabled. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War fans who play in multiplayer may want to disable the setting for online play.

Reports have only been on the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 platforms. Players have realized that in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War multiplayer matches the framerates may not be matching up as well as they should. While many fans are blaming latency for issues, others believe that ray-tracing may be the culprit for decreased FPS during match moments.

Ray-tracing is a relatively new technology and although Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War does look different under its effects, it's not enough of a trade for performance quality. With the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X systems, many fans have noticed sub-optimal framerates alongside various other issues. Many problems have been solved simply by disabling the feature and returning to a lesser rendering system.

Once disabled, many Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War console fans noticed that the stutter was gone, lag fixed, and framerate stabilized, as would be expected from a modern game. While this does reduce the graphical beauty of the title, it makes the multiplayer a more enjoyable experience by clearing up performance issues.

As this is a well-known issue for the game, many Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players believe that there might be a patch to help clear some of the issues up. Other players argue that it could be a hardware limitation and that a patch may not be enough to move into this next generation of rendering techniques.

Still, all of this technology is new and could go through a series of improvements. Problems with the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 have appeared since the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. As both companies try and repair their consoles with updates and eventually improved versions, ray-tracing may become a more valuable and widespread tool within the gaming community.

Till then, players are advised that if they notice a performance decrease it may be Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's ray-tracing setting causing some background issues. Simply disable the setting and see if improvements have been made to the overall gameplay experience.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
