Even with some bugs at launch, players quickly fell in love with the Outbreak mode inside Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies. As such, fans should be happy to know that more content for the mode is coming via the Season 2 Reloaded update for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

Thus far, Treyarch has confirmed a new Outbreak location, and those familiar with Fireteam Dirty Bomb quickly pointed out that it was the Sanatorium map. A massive retreat with a river, beaches, and large buildings, many would agree that this populated area is the most visually impressive Fireteam location. As such, seeing the gorgeous city overrun by Zombies should be a blast — though Treyarch has confirmed that Sanatorium will not be the only addition to the mode.

Treyarch recently teased that Zombies fans will be seeing a day and night cycle added to Outbreak, with both the text and video included in a recent Tweet hyping up this addition. Not only will players need to survive “after dark,” but footage of the Sanatorium map at night was clearly visible. Seeing the city-like location lit up in the dark should be plenty of fun, and if this addition is made to older maps like Alpine, more visual variety could help each match feel a bit different. As of now, it is also unconfirmed if this will be a traditional nighttime look or the Dark Aether variant with the jellyfish in the sky.

For now, though, players only know for sure that there will be a nighttime version of Sanatorium when the game’s next update arrives. There is more on the way beyond the fresh map and its day/night cycle, however, as Treyarch has confirmed that a new Outbreak objective is coming as well. While nothing was specified about the objective, it will likely be added to previous maps as well, adding further variety to the quickly growing game mode.

Finally, fresh Outbreak intel additions have been confirmed. Based on past intel, players can expect a few artifacts to be hidden throughout Sanatorium. Some more documents may be dropped by Panzers, Mimics, Megatons, and Manglers as well, with additional intel items added to the trial machine. For those interested in the story, these documents usually provide major teases as to what is coming next, meaning that they are worth a read or listen at the game’s main menu.

Clearly, Treyarch seems to have several ideas for how to expand upon Outbreak mode going forward. With a proper Easter egg quest confirmed for Season 3, things are looking up for those that enjoy the concept of open-world Zombies.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
