Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has been available some time now, and players are patiently waiting for the release of Season 1. Not only will the first season of content bring new maps and bug fixes, but it will also see a rebalancing for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War weaponry — something that the Flak Jacket perk desperately needs.

While Black Ops Cold War players have voiced concerns regarding the release of the latest Call of Duty game, the power level of Flak Jacket had not been one of them until recently. In fact, when the game first released, the perk was completely broken and ineffective in hardcore game modes. Only after a recent tweak did it go from useless to overpowered, with the latest form of Flak Jacket being absurdly strong.

Multiple sources have shown off how Flak Jacket makes players invulnerable to all forms of explosive damage, with players surviving direct impact shots from RPGs and cooked grenades. Things were taken to a new level when a Redditor named AllSkillzN0Luck posted a clip where they managed to survive a cruise missile due to Flak Jacket. With the rocket landing directly on the head of the player, their survival is absurd, with many commenters shocked about how strong Flak Jacket has become.

Thankfully, relief may be in sight for those experiencing moments like this cruise missile survival on the Nuketown ‘84 map. Community manager FoxhoundFPS responded to a particularly rude commenter that said, “imagine if FoxhoundFPS actually did his job and forwarded things like this to the team.” In the response, FoxhoundFPS confirmed that “there was actually a discussion about this yesterday” among the Treyarch development team.

FoxhoundFPS goes on to say that, though the commenter and others are displeased with Treyarch’s “gaps” in updates, he “can only speak to the things that he can speak to.” While Treyarch’s community manager could not ensure fans that Flak Jacket would be nerfed in the Season 1 balancing pass for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, the fact that Treyarch knows about the issue is promising. With Flak Jacket being so overpowered at the moment as well, the data Treyarch has access to should all but guarantee a nerf for the perk in the near future.

While Treyarch fixing Flak Jacket should certainly be a priority, there is no shortage of fan complaints for the studio to work through. With players demanding everything from progression changes in Zombies to the removal of Cartel’s bushes, where Treyarch starts with the adjustments and fixes is anyone’s guess.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
