Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has performed fairly well among most reviewers, but the community is expressing a drastically different opinion. While Call of Duty remains one of the most popular modern game franchises, the recent release of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is being met with a split community.

It was around this time last year that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was also met with mixed reviews by the community. Although official reviewers raved over the title, the playerbase found the multiplayer underwhelming despite the immersive campaign. Now, a year later, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is receiving similar feedback.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has been available for around two weeks. Since its release, fans have had time to explore all the varying game modes and campaign options, with some players submitting their reviews onto varying sites, including Metacritic. While the review community has given the game a rather positive reception, users on Metacritic have rated it a 3.4/10. This comes from over 600 reviews, as players write their thoughts into the online review board. To make matters worse for Treyarch, it is not only one factor that is causing this. Fan complaints on Metacritic range from Multiplayer to Zombies as players voice their community concerns.

Reading through the varying Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War reviews, many players consider the game unfinished and buggy. Although there is almost no mention of the Campaign, server issues revolving around Multiplayer and questionable weapon balancing caused many fans to rate this game between a 0-3 out of 10.

Fan concern over Multiplayer is justified, as once the campaign has been completed, many fans default to the varying game modes. This does mean that a majority of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's playtime will end up in Multiplayer or Zombies matches. If Multiplayer can't hold up to player expectations, then no campaign will be good enough for fans to justify the game's price tag.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has so far not topped sale charts, but as negative fan reviews continue to stack, many fans wonder if this game will recover as well as Modern Warfare did. The developers have a shopping list of complaints to sort through to win back fan approval and turn the tide of this continuously dropping review score.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
