Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War may feature a large lineup of weaponry, but the LC10 SMG has easily been the best option since the gun made its debut. Fortunately, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players are in luck, as Treyarch has confirmed that the weapon will be getting a nerf in Season 5.

Added during Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 2, players wasted no time figuring out just how strong the LC10 SMG was. Not only did it outclass the FARA 83 Assault Rifle that accompanied it in the battle pass, but the compact weapon proved to be better than all the other SMGs in the game. As the months have passed and Treyarch continued to make balancing changes, the LC10’s position on top has not been threatened. However, after three full Seasons, its reign is finally coming to an end.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 5 drops on August 12, and when it comes, players can expect LC10 changes to come with it. Treyarch confirmed that several Assault Rifles and SMGs will be changed in the game’s big update, with several weapons from each category likely to be buffed and nerfed. Given that these are the two most popular classes in every Call of Duty game, changes based on community feedback make sense. However, Treyarch name drops the LC10 specifically, confirming that the controversial gun will be adjusted.

Unfortunately, Treyarch does not state what exactly this nerf will be, so Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players will have to be patient until the full patch notes arrive for the new Season. With the LC10 having no real downside, the nerf could impact just about anything. The gun does some shocking damage at range, with LMG users often being beaten by someone that has a fully leveled LC10. As such, lowering its damage from a distance could be one way that the weapon is nerfed.

Another possible nerf for the LC10 would see the gun’s accuracy taking a hit, as those familiar with the weapon will know how little recoil there is for the SMG. A rate of fire nerf is also a possibility. Regardless of what form this nerf takes, though, it will be nice to see a new meta of some kind finally taking shape. With the TEC-9 SMG also releasing next Season, it should have the opportunity to shine without being completely outclassed.

With Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s Stoner nerf happening a while back, the LC10 remains the only weapon in the game that most players feel is overpowered. Once this nerf comes through, the game should find itself in a much more balanced state.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
